BevAcqua "FREE" CD reviewed
In a year where hip hop and punk songs are thumping out of the radio speaker, Bevacqua has refreshed the airwaves with their new album "Free." Contemporary hits you can sing along with, produced by Andrew Horrocks (Miranda Stone, 100 Days, Thousand Foot Krutch).
Making comparisons to other successful artists is common when you hear a new song. A few of the tracks on "Free" have overtones of Amy Grant and a bit of Out Of The Grey's Christine Dente and that puts singer Daphne Bevacqua in great company. "What Loves About" is reminiscent of Sheryl Crow and could easily sit on a mainstream music chart and hold its own against secular competitors. And there are many other tracks with hooks made for radio. If there is a formula for writing a hit song, Bevacqua have found it.
Fans of Christian music will appreciate the boldness of God's love on the words of the title track "Free" - "Come and live in me, 'coz you are the only one who can set me free." The first single delivered to Christian radio is "Forever" showcasing passionate harmonies and a hummable chorus. Guitarist/husband Joe takes over vocals on a couple of driving tracks. Check out "Live To Worship."
As a bonus "The Cry" (also known as the "Oh Canada" song) is included on the album, originally released as a single in 2002, in honor of the youth rally which took place in Ottawa. And Bevacqua fans will also enjoy the fresh, newly re-recording of "I Love You Lord," one of their best-known songs, first released in 1999.
There's something about pop songs that I love. Maybe it's the fact I can sing along to catchy melodies and love God at the same time. "Free" by Bevacqua is all of that and more!
